Day One and Two

Oregon Coast – Summer, 2010

Day One and Two

We spent 7 days touring the Oregon Coast as our only camping trip of the summer. We had a great time! My commentary will be lacking this trip report as my time is few these days. Thus, this will mostly be pictures.

We do a lot of road trips and always a ritual is a chorus-sung Neil Diamond song. I tried to take photos of the kids as they belted out “Sweet Caroline…dun dun duh.” I got this of Kelsey:

and this of Jorden:

Hah…he’s on his toes, that boy. S’alright, I got him on the way back up:

We liked the Gay Pride truck:

First stop was a hotel in Tukwila/Renton (I’m never quite sure if we are in Tukwila or Renton when we are shopping at our favorite place…Southcenter Mall). We shopped for back-to-school clothes and other items that are more expensive back home (toiletries, etc.) Early to bed so we could be early to rise.

We woke up to a nicer day, the rain had stopped and the sun was going to shine (as soon as it rose.) The drive down the coast was beautiful as usual! We didn’t do much stopping as we wanted to get to the campsite to see if we could chance into a Yurt. No such luck, though. As it turned out, our sleeping arrangements were quite comfy anyway, although VERY cold the first night.

We arrived at Nehalem State Park right beside the cute little town of Manzanita. Our campsite was closest to the beach and we could hear the rumbling of the open ocean from our tent. What a way to go to sleep!

The beach is right over the hill there behind our tent:

After we setup camp and played some cards, we headed over the hill to the beach.

It was SUPER windy, so after taking some photos we returned to the campsite to play some cards and backgammon.

And camping is not begun until you are drinking boxed wine from a plastic cup!

We took a short drive into Manzanita for some supplies (coals, milk, smore making materials. It is such a cute town.

Stopped for some firewood:

Back at the campsite, Kelsey decided she wanted to learn to longboard, so Jorden tried to teach her, but ended up laughing at her instead. Turns out dance doesn’t transfer well to other sports.

When the sun started to go down we headed back to the beach to watch the sunset and take some photos. Note: photos are mostly going to be of Kelsey and Jorden doesn’t really like his photo being taken so much.

I think she is pointing at the sun?? ;-)

Can you take any more photos of Kelsey??!! (It’s so hard to stop because she is a great subject!)

Photoshopped:

She was blowing away in the wind:

As the sun went down, the beach transformed into an array of gorgeous colours:

Golden footsteps in the sand?

A passerby:

and then the sun started to get swallowed up by the horizon:

Once gone, the sky returned somewhat to it’s blue, dusky colour:

Back at camp it was time for Jorden’s favorite activity…building the campfire! He is very good at chopping the wood and starting the fire.

We made smores, roasted some weenies, drank some wine (well, some of us did) and went to bed.

Stay tuned for day 2 and more gorgeous photos of our excursions!

    Thanks everyone for the comments!

Laura, she has always really looked like her dad, but recently since she’s been developing her “adult face”, I get a lot of comments that she looks like me.
