Pond Skating

Woke up early to go to the Empire State building ahead of the crowds, and it worked out well. WE were among the first here and there were no lines. We weren’t impressed by the 10 or so folks who try to sell you stuff all the way up though.

It was a bit cloudy, but the view was amazing!

I like this photo:

A self-portrait in the mirror:

Pigeons sure fly high!!

An interestingly lit hallway:

We then headed to Bryant Park where the kids went ice-skating. It was early so not too packed. John and I watched while listening to the old standards play on the loudspeaker. It was really quite surreal. What a wonderful way to spend a morning.

It was quite warm, and they were having some trouble with the ice melting…there were actually pools of water on the ice and of course Jorden fell twice and slid right through the water. ha! Soaked.

Jorden was excited about going back to the hotel to change for the game:

I painted his face with some face paint I had brought, then we walked around a bit, and then went to Grey’s Papaya for some famous New York hot dogs, which weren’t so famous to me. The kids loved them, and the corn dogs.

And I did love the cheesesteaks.

It was time to go to the Port Authority for our bus to the Jets game.

The bus ride cost us $40 return all together for the four of us, and went straight there and back. Perfect!

We were pretty excited to be at this game (well, not Kelsey. ha.). Some pre-game photos:

I thought is was funny how Jorden’s hair was curling right around his toque:

The number of tailgaters in the parking lot was amazing!!!

Jorden checks the days scores on my iPhone:

Even kelsey takes in all the excitement:

When John told me this was a New Jersey cops uniform I thought he was kidding. But it is. EVERDAY uniform, too..not dress uniform. Oh man.

Our seats were terrific!

Soon Favre game out on the field:

and both teams made there way out:

The lights came on:

and Cindy Lauper sang the national anthem:

and the game was underway:

It was a good game, but the Jets lost! The fans are crazy!

The fans yell and swear and boo everything! Very different from the Seahawk games. They booed the cheerleaders. They booed the players. They even booed the poor little ballboy!! The were cold!

A nice photo of a jet coming in:

After the game we stood in the long bus lineup for about a half hour. Before long we were back in Times Square searching out a snack.

I really wanted to try one of those pretzels, but couldn’t bring myself to, given they were just all out in the open like that with thousands of people walking by. Just couldn’t do it.

So we settled for some nuts!

We went into the NHL store and they had a great billboard in there:

Jorden with all his fanware on:

That was pretty much it for the night!
